POWER TIP #12 – “I Need Help!”

This is actually less of a “Power Tip” than a loving suggestion, but here goes.

friends10My heart broke when I read a woman’s comment on another website. It was from someone who had a real concern that she couldn’t prep just because she couldn’t afford it. Their budget was barely enough to put food on the table and clothes on their backs, and nothing more each week. Where does she begin?

Do what you can. Start small. Buy one extra can of food, if possible, each time you go to the store for your storage area. Look to bartering. Trade a service for tangible products. Take a hard look at what you are spending your money on. Is it something you really need or just want? Learn what it takes to be a lifestyle minimalist. Look into government services or church programs that will work with you. In light of these…

I have another word for her – COMMUNITY – and, I’m not just talking about her neighbors (although they are very important), but the church community, neighborhood markets and retail places, community services (such as the fire department and police, etc.) and so much more. Get out and be known. This is not a time for pride which can bring on more problems than good. Proverbs 11:2 says, “When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.”

Of course, as a Christian, my very first encouragement would be for her to attend a good, Bible-believing church so she can come to know not only a caring God, but the people that worship there and receive their support, prayer, and maybe even eventually, tangible support. (Pray that God would show you such a place because not all churches are created equal! Some actually teach a false gospel. The section on this website titled, “believe” lines up with a true Gospel-believing church.) The hallmark of Christianity should be compassion and if they live as they believe, this church will be one of this woman’s biggest assets and greatest advocates. In other words, KNOW and BE KNOWN!  And, as you “receive”, remember to say thank you, for it truly is a gift of love.
